What do you teach anyway?

We help people of all ages polish their social skills. Etiquette is 1/3 knowledge, which we can build on with you; 1/3 courtesy, which we can help you understand and apply; and 1/3 common sense which we can help you develop through practice and role-playing.

What is the difference between business and social etiquette?

With women entering the workforce and becoming a major player in the business place, the rules of how we treat each other have changed. Social etiquette is generally based on gender and still very much practiced outside the workplace. Business etiquette is based on equality; therefore, gender has no place of distinction in the workplace.

The same rules apply to all. The savvy professional knows the difference and feels at ease in both worlds. The under-30 crowd is very aware of business etiquette. Those older find it confusing to keep up. We teach both, often comparing one to the other, so that class participants walk away with confidence and greater skills for the workplace and social functions.

I'm apprehensive about the dining skills class I've signed up for. Are you going to spend the time telling me all the things I've done wrong and embarrassing me?

No, we will not embarrass you. We teach etiquette, meaning we teach the up-to-date skills everyone will need in social and business situations. Unless asked by that person to comment on his or her mannerly behavior,we do not critique. We teach; you make the decision whether to apply what you are learning or not.

What do you charge? Where is your fee schedule?

We charge accordingly. What is the best way for you to learn...in a tutorial or in a class? Would the family discount or group rate apply? Do you want a one-day class or several sessions? Where will this be taught? Will mileage need to be included? You can tell there are lots of variables. For information about current fees, contact The Etiquette Center.

How do the presentations/classes include more than the basics?

Yes. The presentations and classes are tailored to your needs. There is a checklist of basic topics which we discuss when we set up a presentation, seminar, or class. We do ask if you have particular areas you want us to address. Sometimes, if we cannot cover all the material, we do a second presentation. Also, there may be questions about international etiquette, like "How do you shake hands in England?" or "How would I introduce the Prime Minister?" We try to make sure you have the answers before the presentation is complete.

Are all of the classes at The Etiquette Center? Do you put all presentations and classes on the web calendar and open them all to the public?

Classes are held in many different places for a whole variety of groups. We travel when necessary to make it as convenient as possible. Private classes, seminars, and presentations are NOT listed on the web calendar. Only those open to the public are.
